Jack Be Invincible‘ also known as ‘Legendary Youngest Son of the Marquis House‘ (Korean: 후작가의 역대급 막내아들), is a Korean webtoon manhwa, released in 2022 by Kakao, based on the web novel by author Neogulhi (Korean: 넉울히) and illustrated by Kay/Kei (Korean: 케이), which has been serialized by Tapas.io in English.

Experience ‘Jack Be Invincible‘ as Jack Valantier’s revenge takes an invincible turn after his untimely death. This action-packed webtoon blends fantasy and time travel, promising a riveting journey as Jack redefines his destiny.

Jack Valantier

Jack Valantier, the protagonist, emerges as a character with a burning desire for revenge and plenty resilience. His journey begins with his grim demise – after exacting revenge on the Thulcaan Empire, Jack takes his dying breath – just to find himself transported back to his 14-year-old self. This sets the stage for Jack, who’s armed with decades of experience from his previous life, and is determined to rewrite his story. His half-joking ‘carefree‘ facade concealing a calculative and ruthless core makes his interactions and decisions dynamic and sometimes even pleasantly unpredictable. Jack Valantier becomes a beacon of strength for ‘his people‘, but he’s also ready to completely destroy his father’s ducal family, as he sees them as wicked trash, making him the perfect savage MC.
Another great part about Jack, he’s one of the only few protagonists in regression media, who actually discloses to people close to him, that he is a regressor, breathing fresh air into the classic revenge regression plot.

The World of ‘Jack Be Invincible’

‘Jack Be Invincible’ unfolds against the backdrop of an intricately crafted setting. From Jack’s negligent and cruel family and loyal servant, to his mortal enemies, the Thulcaan Empire, every aspect of the world is vividly portrayed. Exploring the cultures, conflicts, and familial relationships, serving as an awesome storytelling device. The inclusion of these factions and political intrigues adds depth, providing a deeper world which feels more alive and realistic. Jack’s return to a familiar environment may seem like a very common trope at first, but throughout ‘Jack Be Invincible’, even though Jack is obviously OP, there are rarely any stale moments, with Jack having to master lots of unexpected scenarios.

Characters

The character cast in ‘Jack Be Invincible’ is above average for a revenge regression manhwa, where usually flat tropes prevail, but no this time. First there’s Jack’s sister ‘Elizabeth Valantier‘, who is excessively kind and suffered a horrible fate in their last life, serving as Jack’s primary motivation for revenge and chances in his newfound life. Followed closely by
Jack’s personal butler/servant/maid/bodyguard, Ron, who used to be his late mother’s servant, is a loyal friend who even lost his life protecting Jack in their past lives.

Now it gets even more interesting, meet Jack’s master and teacher ‘Valentine Milos‘, who used to be the most powerful human alive. She singlehandedly ushered in the era of humans, but now suffers from a curse turning her into a doll only being able to live as a human one day per month. Tying the whole package together, there are also Jack’s companions / friends / students: Charlotte de Royale, a vampire who lost her mother to an evil dragon’s plot and got saved by Jack. Then there is Thanos, who’s a commoner and Jack’s classmate – After being bullied relentlessly by his noble peers, Jack saves him and takes him in as a student. Later on, Shel Bahamut joins the group. She was born to two legendary dragons, who aboandoned her and let the Thulcaan empire do cruel experiments to her until Jack and Valentine freed her.

Of course there are plenty of enemies too, starting from Jack’s cruel blood-related family, to the Thulcaan Empire and a lot of idiots who underestimate him in between. All of them serve as perfect ‘cannon fodder‘ for Jack to claw through, giving him plenty of opportunities to show off his epicly ruthless side.

Art & Style

In my opinion the art style looks a little weird – I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who might love it, for me personally, characters tend to look like vampires (not only the vampires). This might be due to the art style’s heavily emphasized and exaggerated facial expressions combined with quite the pale/mute color palate chosen as the most prevalent skin tone. At times (especially when it comes to dragons), for some godforsaken reason, the worst CGI ever seen has been used – Resident Evil movie (2002) type CGI – thankfully there are only a couple scenes featuring CGI. Still, all in all, the art style isn’t bad per se, just weird – it doesn’t impact the reading experience much.

Be aware before reading

Some portions could be classified as shotacon (let’s be real: pedo) bait, with Jack acting really sus at times, some dialog being very disturbing and the art especially, making Jack look feminine and creating an uncomfortable shoujo feel at times – thankfully these scenes don’t happen too frequently (exclusively in season 2).

What’s great

‘Jack Be Invincible’ excels in delivering a balanced pacing and an effective portrayal of an oppressive and cruel environment. The main plot elements include revenge, political intrigue, Jack’s past life experiences and his newfound companions and friends. While Jack is a cruel, ruthless and calculation person, who doesn’t always act with the best intentions, his appreciation and genuine emotions towards his companions make him seem less like a monster and more like a likeable protagonist you want to see winning.

Should I read ‘Jack Be Invincible’?

If enjoy ruthless protagonists and an intricately built world, great personal interactions and growing interpersonal relationships ‘Jack Be Invincible’ is a ‘must read‘. Jack’s resilience and the immersive world make this webtoon a fun read for regression fans. Whether you appreciate characters navigating challenges with a mix of decisiveness and carefree charm or are drawn to a great revenge plot, this webtoon makes a very enjoyable read.

Summary

‘Jack Be Invincible’ follows protagonist Jack Valantier’s quest for revenge and shows off his resilient personality. After a grim demise and time travel, armed with past experiences, he’s determined to rewrite his story. This manhwa features an intricately crafted world, dynamic characters, and a balanced pace. The art style, while a bit weird, doesn’t significantly impact the reading experience, even the occasionally subpar CGI doesn’t impact the balanced pacing and effective portrayal of the oppressive environment. Jack’s cruelty is tempered by his appreciation for his companions, making him a mostly likable protagonist.

Tl;dr

I’d say ‘Jack Be Invincible’ is recommended for those who enjoy ruthless protagonists, an intricately built world, and well-developed interpersonal relationships. The immersive world and Jack’s resilience make it a must-read for regression fans.

However, you should be aware of potential shotacon elements, occasional disturbing dialogues, and uncomfortable art moments, especially in season two.
